Our Plant It day took place on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning on 11th October. Thank you to everybody who came along to help plant the 3000 crocus bulbs, purchased from some of the money raised on the Fun Day.
Thank you also to City of Edinburgh Council who supplied the gloves and the bulb planters for the event.
Pictures coming soon on the downloads page!

All are welcome to come and help us plant 1,000 crocus bulbs around the play park area! We’ll begin at 10:00. The event will proceed in light rain, but if it’s a huge downpour we will reschedule for the following Sunday, same time!
We will provide bulbs, as well as some planting equipment and gloves, but if you have your own gloves, trowels, etc, bring them along! We will also provide drinks and biscuits for volunteers. Hope to see you there!

Last Saturday’s Big Fun Day in the park was a great success, with beautiful weather and so many people turning out to enjoy the event! The first pictures are already up in our photo gallery — more coming soon!
The event was brilliantly organized by Suzanne at Eero and Riley, but could not have succeeded without the generous donations of time, money, and goods from members of the community. Many thanks to all the volunteers, local businesses, and neighbors who helped make it such a special day, including:
HSS Hire, Seafield Road
Cornelius Beer & Wine
Dave Tullis Removals
Manna House
Bounce Around Bouncy Castle Hire
London Road Church
Abbeyhill Primary School
Leith Walk Primary School
Margaret Blackwood Sheltered Housing, Abbeyhill
Thank you all so much for your help, and welcome to all our new members who joined or renewed their membership at the event!

After an enjoyable summer break, FoMSP had a very productive quarterly general meeting on 3rd September, during which we formulated our action plan for the coming year. We set dates for upcoming meetings and several community events. We are particularly excited about our next Fun Day on 26th September, as well as “Plant It!” and “Paint It!” events in October and March, so check out the Projects Page — and as always, let us know if you’re interested in volunteering/participating. We can always use the help, and all are welcome!
There were also a few changes in the structure of the committee. After doing a fantastic job as Chair up to this point, Julienne Thurrott will now be focusing on working as a Funding Finder for the group. Vice-Chair Chris Rankin will assume the role of Chair in the interim until our next Annual General Meeting, and we will vote on a new Vice-Chair at the next quarterly meeting.

Two nest boxes designed by artist Alec Finlay were installed in the park today. The nest boxes feature poem clues on the names of common British birds. These nest boxes are part of a set that are being installed in parks around Britain and will be featured in a forthcoming book.
Let us know if you see the right birds nesting in the right boxes!

Thank-you to everyone who took part in Paint It Day - thank-you to the 34 volunteers who defied the cold and wind to man stalls,  drive vans, carry tables, rescue flying gazebos, clean paintbrushes, boil kettles, carry urns, serve teas, bake cakes, put up bunting, taste cakes, paint faces, blow up balloons, build frisbee targets, throw frisbees, paint bricks, donate prizes, take photos,  ask questions, show off plans, or to do any of the other myriad of tasks that made the day. And thank-you to the 200 people who came to the park to take part.
We raised approximately five hundred pounds and had a lot of fun.
Nick Gardener’s website has great photos of the day. You can see them here http://www.leithandnorth.org.uk/features2009/montgomery_st_park_spring_09/index.php
